Elokuun 4.päivänä 1995 Kroatian armeijan ja Bosnian puolustuskomitean joukot Franjo Tudjmanin komennossa hyökkäsivät johtavien länsivaltojen tuella serbien asuttamalle YK:n suoja-alueelle Krajinan alueella Kroatiassa. Neljännesmiljoonan serbin etniseen puhdistukseen kului vain muutama päivä. Tämä operaatio ”Storm’ina” tunnettu episodi vaikuttaa länsi-Balkanin elämään tänäkin päivänä tuoden samalla yhden vivahteen läntisen valtavirtamedian tarkoitushakuisesti luomaan yksipuoliseen kuvaan alueen tapahtumista.
